| Rail Safety Week is marked in August each year to highlight the year-round need for vigilance when road vehicles and pedestrians interact with the railway network. In its 20th year in 2025, Rail Safety Week runs from 11 to 17 August, with rail operators and related industry members across Australia and New Zealand uniting to raise awareness about the importance of staying safe on and around the rail network. The annual campaign has grown into a significant industry initiative, sparking conversations, building community awareness, and promoting safer behaviours. The key messages include not entering crossings when flashing lights and boom gates are operating, encouraging motorists to be attentive when approaching level crossings on both the main line and branch lines, as trains can run at all times of the day and night and not necessarily to regular schedules, and pedestrians are urged to only cross railway lines at dedicated crossings and to not enter the railway corridor.
